LOVE		ЛЮБВИ
My Love is of a birth as rare		Моей любви похожих нет —
As 'tis for object strange and high		Странна и высока она.
It was begotten by Despair		Отчаянье дало ей свет —
Upon Impossibility.		От чресл запрета рождена.
Magnanimous Despair alone		Отчаянье своей рукой
Could show me so divine a thing		Меня могло бы привести
Where feeble Hope could ne'r have flown		В чертог далёкий и святой,
But vainly flapt its tinsel wing.		Куда надежде нет пути.
And yet I quickly might arrive		Душе измученной покой
Where my extended soul is fixt		Я там нашёл бы без помех,
But Fate does iron wedges drive,		Да вот судьба летит за мной —
And always crowds it self betwixt.		Не обогнать полозий тех.
For Fate with jealous eye does see		Судьба препятствия несёт
Two perfect Loves; nor lets them close:		Союзу родственных сердец.
Their union would her ruin be,		Любовь, свершившись, расцветёт —
And her Tyrannic pow'r depose.		Судьбы тиранству в том конец.
And therefore her Decrees of Steel		И вот судьба стальной рукой
Us as the distant Poles have plac'd,		Два сердца к полюсам стремит.
(Though Love's whole World on us doth wheel)		Соединить их нелегко
Not by themselves to be embrac'd.		(Хоть целый мир любовь дарит)
Unless the giddy Heaven fall,		Пока не лопнет неба твердь
