First announcement

July 17, 2009, will be the 80th birthday of academician Sergei Konstantinovich Godunov. Sobolev Institute of Mathematics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Novosibirsk State University are proud to host an All-Russian conference “Mathematics in Applications” dedicated to this remarkable event.

The meeting will be held at Sobolev Institute of Mathematics in Novosibirsk, July 20-24, 2009.

Conference scope

The seminar "Mathematics in Applications" led by Sergei Konstantinovich Godunov at the Sobolev Institute of Mathematics has been well-known among specialists in various fields of fundamental science and applications in Russia and abroad for a long time. Recently a scientific seminar "Problem Definitions That Allow Parallel Implementation on Multiprocessors" under the Joint Scientific Council on Mathematics and Informatics of SB RAS began its work directed by S. K. Godunov as well.

The scientific conference timed to the anniversary date is supposed to become a specific extended session of these two seminars and will cover the following research directions:

  • numerical linear algebra;
  • differential equations;
  • mathematical modelling and numerical methods;
  • mechanics of continuous media;
  • high-performance computations on multiprocessors.

Specialists concerned are invited to take part in the conference. The conference program will include plenary lectures and section talks reflecting state of the art in the conference themes. The talks are to be selected by the Program Committee on the basis of the submitted abstracts.
